Winter Weather Awareness Day in Iowa will be Thursday, November 9. Each year, emergency management agencies in Iowa team up with their local National Weather Service office to remind citizens of the importance of being prepared for the upcoming winter season. Preparedness is key to staying safe during an Iowa winter which can bring heavy snow, high winds and dangerous wind chills. Travel can become dangerous and even impossible at times during severe winter storms while ice storms can cause widespread power outages lasting for days.
